Well, Miss Makenley is now 9 days old. As of today, she's doing pretty good.

 

On Saturday night, a nurse accidentally put her feeding tube into her lungs instead of her stomach. She was fed through the tube, so everything that was fed went into her lungs, making it near impossible for her to breathe. She was put back on oxygen, and has since been treated for pneumonia. It was a very scary night, but thankfully, she's recovered pretty quick.

 

She is now 4.4 lbs, back off of oxygen, and making good progress again. Hoping to have our sweet girl home soon.

Makenley update.

First of all, thank you so much for all the prayers and well wishes as we welcomed Makenley into our lives. Haven't had a whole lot of time to go through and reply to each individual email, text, post, or phone call, but we have read most of them and appreciate all of you.
On Sunday afternoon, my water broke. Typical for my pregnancies. We lined up a babysitter for our kids, and headed to the hospital. Contractions hadn't started when we arrived, so they decided to try and hold labor off for another day or two by administering a small dose of medicine, but wasn't going to fight it too aggressively. The contractions started a few hours later, so we got the medicine. The contractions spaced out, but didn't fully stop, so they just let it progress. Once the medicine was out of my system and the contractions became consistent, things rapidly happened. Our doctor, who was 10 minutes away when I was at 4cm dilated and on her way missed the birth. Our sweet nurse caught Makenley five minutes before the doctor, the NICU staff who was just down the hall, and another doctor got there. Her cord was wrapped around her neck a couple times, and because of how fast things happened, she had a bit of a challenge adjusting, but quickly recovered.
Yesterday she did great. She had no issues at all. They started her feeds, and she took the bottle and nursed like a champ. The second feeding of the day, she continued to do well. After though, she spit up. She was laying down, so she choked on it a little bit while trying to get it out and her oxygen dropped. They suctioned her and cleared her airway, gave her some oxygen, and she was fine. Since then, they're giving her a break today and are giving her a little boost of oxygen through a nasal canula, and giving her feedings through a tube. Her billi levels are rising a tiny bit, so starting today, she's also under the phototherapy lights. Her numbers are still in the normal range, but they want to catch it before she becomes jaundiced. All these things are common with preemies (although, scary!), but we were really hoping she'd be able to avoid them.
Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she works on meeting her milestones to come home. And pray for the rest of us, as we try and find some balance, and strength to ride out this NICU ride.

Quick update on Makenley!

Had our ultrasound today. So far, no dilation or signs of preterm labor. She's head down, which is a good thing. Lots of practice breathing was seen. She's doing everything she's supposed to do, and weighs about 3 lbs 10 oz so far. She's perfect! We think she's going to look a lot like Phoenix. <3

Hi there! It's been a while since I've posted any updates. Not a whole lot has been going on that has been 'post worthy', but here's a little update on our family.

Bryce's health continues to be on and off again. He's been sick quite a few times over the past few months, but we're still seeing progress with the severity and the length of it. He's not getting nearly as sick as he was a year ago, and it's not taking him so dang long to recover. So, even though he's been sick more often than we want these past couple months, we're still counting it as progress and praying for even more progress.

We're now at 31 weeks with the pregnancy, which is typically the week where our babies like to make their grand appearances. So far, Makenley is showing no signs of coming right away, and all is going well. We are in the process of giving her steroid injections to help with her lung maturity if she does happen to come early. We get our last dose Tuesday morning. Wednesday we'll have an ultrasound, and a fetal fibronectin done (The test to determine risk of delivering in the next couple weeks). This pregnancy has flown by so quickly, and everyone is getting pretty excited to meet this little girl. We just want her healthy, and would love for her to wait long enough to come right home.

29 weeks

Running behind.

I am so far behind on getting Christmas cards out this year. Life has been busy (as usual!) and time has gotten away from me. I'm not sure I'll get them out before Christmas, so I thought I'd post some new pics of the kids here.
